RTI reveals 23,486 COVID-19 deaths in Kerala since Jan ’20, but the Chief Ministersays only 16,170.

Thiruvananthapuram: There is a big discrepancy between the figures of the government and the Kerala Mission regarding the COVID-19 deaths in Kerala. According to the Kerala Mission, more than 7,000 COVID-19 deaths have been reported in the state than the Chief Minister’s office.

Opposition leader VD Satheesan, who was speaking during the discussion on the urgent motion notice. Satheesan raised this issue in the assembly.

The Office of the Leader of the Opposition has also released RTI documents confirming this. According to this document, 7316 unaccounted for deaths have been reported in the state due to COVID-19 since Jan ’20.

According to the RTI, 23,486 deaths have been reported in Kerala since January 2020. But in the Chief Minister’s press release issued yesterday, the total death toll was only 16,170.

Earlier, the central government and the ICMR had criticized the Kerala state for inconsistencies in COVID-19 deaths.
