BJP national vice president and Lakshadweep in charge A.P. Abdullakutty lash out at Communist–Congress–Muslim League politicians for misguiding people of India about the recent developments in Lakshadweep islands.
The whole social media campaign against these laws is one big irony. The administrator of Lakshadweep has not implemented any of these laws, he has put these laws in the public domain and has categorically asked for suggestions and feedback from the public at large. How’s the act of asking for feedback from the public even remotely undemocratic? In fact, it’s anything but that. The draft laws have been placed before the public is for them to review the laws and their clauses and to come back with constructive feedback and suggestions, this is exactly how a democracy is supposed to work.
It is not for the first time, India is witnessing protests around the question of a person’s identity. It is also not the first time Article.14 has been contested by the common people in streets, educational institutions or in the Courts alike. At the end of the day, it is everyone’s Constitution & everyone can take sides. This article would take you back to the events of 1990s that followed the approval of Mandal Commission(which introduced Reservation System) and compare how the present day anti-CAA protests are a reiteration of the same ideas based on which the implementation of Mandal Commission was opposed.
Recently, the Pinarayi government passed a bill approving the formation of Kerala Madrasa Teachers Welfare Fund Board with the intention to provide pension for the those madrassa tutors who have completed 60 years and have contributed towards the scheme for a period not less than 5 years.
It is this lack of prudence of this government that has lead the state to a grievous financial tension. This is yet again another irresponsible decision by the state government not considering the final benefit coming out of such an expenditure and if this outcome actually justifies the expenditure.
The Kerala State Government has effortlessly approved a huge project of free internet that will cost the state exchequer a whopping amount of Rs 1,548 crores while a project that is supposed to be the lifeline of millions in the state is gasping for air as it drowns in debt and administrative negligence.
Constitution of India guarantees freedom of religion, stating the right of an individual to choose her religion. This is not in question. It prohibits conversion due to inducement, undue influence, coercion, or use of any threats to anyone. But, this right is misused, forced and compelled.
No Muslim I know feels unsafe in India at least in my part of the country because he is a Muslim. There may be some Muslims who feel unsafe there may be some Hindus who feel unsafe but it has nothing to do with belonging to any community. It’s time to look inwards. We are victims of each other but also protector of each other too. Muslims are not safer or more unsafe as compare to other Indians.
I thought I was doing God’s work. But if I’m being honest, I was doing work that made me feel good. I would volunteer in an orphanage or help clean out a house, both tasks requiring that the people who lived there had to teach me what to do. This actually took their time away from their family or their work. Yet I believed I was serving them.
