It is not for the first time, India is witnessing protests around the question of a person’s identity. It is also not the first time Article.14 has been contested by the common people in streets, educational institutions or in the Courts alike. At the end of the day, it is everyone’s Constitution & everyone can take sides.This article would take you back to the events of 1990s that followed the approval of Mandal Commission(which introduced Reservation System) and compare how the present day anti-CAA protests are a reiteration of the same ideas based on which the implementation of Mandal Commission was opposed.
Recently, the Pinarayi government passed a bill approving the formation of Kerala Madrasa Teachers Welfare Fund Board with the intention to provide pension for the those madrassa tutors who have completed 60 years and have contributed towards the scheme for a period not less than 5 years.
It is this lack of prudence of this government that has lead the state to a grievous financial tension. This is yet again another irresponsible decision by the state government not considering the final benefit coming out of such an expenditure and if this outcome actually justifies the expenditure.
The Kerala State Government has effortlessly approved a huge project of free internet that will cost the state exchequer a whopping amount of Rs 1,548 crores while a project that is supposed to be the lifeline of millions in the state is gasping for air as it drowns in debt and administrative negligence.
